At Shop Naturally, our natural toothpaste and dental products aren't just reserved for adults, we also have a range of products for babies, little kids and the older kids as well. All the toothpaste in our store is fluoride free, and it is completely up to you to decide whether that is the right thing for your child. We have some information from a dentist below to help you decide if it's right for you or not.

Toothbrushes for little ones

From the moment those little teeth arrive in your life, there's a super soft silicone toothbrush from Jack n Jill to use. It can be used from 1 year up to 4 years, but you may want to transition to something else earlier than that.

Jack n Jill also make an extra soft, biodegradable cornstarch toothbrush that will compost down in 90 days. Here's one of the designs, you can get more in the Jack n Jill category.

From Silver Care, we also have some totally cute penguins that have easy grip handles and silver infused in to the head to put a stop to bacteria growth in between brushings. This brand also steps up to a Junior Toothbrush for 2 to 6 year olds and a Pre-Teen toothbrush for 7 to 12 year olds.

For our eco warriors, we have two brands of bamboo toothbrush that cater for kids. Both Go Bamboo and Pearl Bar have kid versions, and like the Jack n Jill, the handles are completely biodegradable when you're done with them. Here's the kids and the adult in the Go Bamboo brand next to each other for comparison.

Toothpaste

One of the biggest issues with kids toothpaste is they like to eat it. Please take a read of this article from an Australian dentist on the subject of kids eating toothpaste with fluoride in it. They explain that ingesting toothpaste with fluoride in it can give a spike of fluoride in their blood supply and on poison websites, there's information of it upsetting little tummies too. They also explain that if you have fluoride in your water, then using a fluoride free toothpaste for your child may be a fine option for you. They do mention that they like organic toothpaste because they are free of SLS (sodium lauryl sulphate) and we are an SLS free zone.

So, the dentist doesn't have a huge issue with a fluoride free / SLS free toothpaste, but the choice is yours. So what's on offer?

Jack n Jill comes in fruity flavours and is designed for little ones 6 months and up. It's popular, and kids love it, but some love it way too much and they literally eat it. One of my staff has a little girl who will eat the whole tube, so this isn't what she uses !!

For kids 2 years and over, the Grants Kids Toothpaste in Blueberry Burst is a great pick. It's only $3.95 and it's pleasant tasting, but not so much that they'll want to eat it.

Weleda also make a Children's Tooth Gel with a milder mint taste using spearmint instead of peppermint.
