Urban Forager
Urban Forager is your plastic free and packaging waste free way to get certified organic stock for full flavoured meals when you don't have the time to make it yourself. Product packaging is such a wasteful part of store bought stock. When you buy Urban Forager in a glass jar instead of a tetra pack, each jar makes 10 litres of stock that's made in Australia from Australian ingredients. There's no fillers in the paste, so you're not paying for rice flour or corn flour. All you get is the rich and thick goodness from a pure stock made of vegetables, herbs, spices, salt and organic meat (chicken & beef only). Say goodbye to dried cubes with little flavour and endless tetra packs ending up in landfill.
What's in Urban Forager stock concentrates?
Urban Forager stock concentrates are made using only natural ingredients. They work with organic farmers and source as many of the ingredients from as close to Fremantle in WA as possible. For example, the apple cider vinegar used comes from Pemberton. The grassfed organic beef from Mumballup. Olive oil is used in place of cheap seed oils found in other brands and comes from GinGin. An array of vegetables herbs and spices are also sourced locally. They make an excellent foundation for some of the tastiest stock on the market today. Organic free range chicken is sourced from Australia's leading organic chicken company, Inglewood (in QLD) as it's difficult to source in WA.
What is a stock concentrate compared to a bone broth?
Stock concentrates are made from 100% pure ingredients, but they differ from a bone broth because they don't use high levels of bones that are simmered between 24 to 48 to pull the nutrients out of the bones. When you buy stock cubes from the supermarket, some of them contain as little as 3 to 4% vegetables. The rest is filler and flavour enhancer like yeast extract and msg.
A real chicken stock is made from organic chicken and vegetables, just real ingredients. Our chicken stock tastes like real chicken and is the perfect base for any meal, and is ideal as the base for a perfectly flavourful risotto. WA lake salt is a part of every stock and balanced perfectly.
What does FODMAP mean in the Urban Forager range?
Creating delicious meals on the FODMAP diet is easier with a stock made without the ingredients that cause Irritable Bowel Syndrome in so many. Part 1 of the FODMAP diet (which was created with the researchers from the Monash University) is one where high FODMAP foods are avoided. In the case of the FODMAP organic chicken stock concentrate, it's made without onion, and garlic. A finely balanced and carefully selected vegetables are used to keep the flavour profile alive while omitting these flavour bombs. Garlic infused oil is still able to be used and leeks are used in place of onion. There is a chicken stock and a vegetable stock in the FODMAP range.
What does FAILSAFE mean in the Urban Forager range?
There is a FAILSAFE vegetable stock in the range. The FAILSAFE diet is another one of elimination to try and identify food intolerances. It's a vast list that predominantly avoids artificial colours, flavour enhancers, synthetics and preservatives, but that's a very simplistic view that skips over a lot of what the diet does.
