We have the most comprehensive range of natural cleaning products online in Australia. The big factors for us are performance, safety and cost. While eco friendly cleaning is important to us, the thing that started the entire Shop Naturally journey back in 2009 was the need for natural laundry liquid and fabric softener that were free from harmful chemicals, including the horrendous artificial scents used in traditional cleaning products you find at the supermarket, because our store owner had a severe case of Multiple Chemical Sensitivities at the time. This category is why we exist and it's why we're so passionate about curating the best natural cleaning products in Australia all in one place. They are all safe for your family, and as an added bonus, good for the planet too!
What's in our natural cleaning products range?
We have every room in the house covered and every cleaning job too. In the laundry, we have a comprehensive range of laundry liquids, fabric softeners, detergent sheets, soap nuts, wool dryer balls, stain removers and stainless steel pegs. Castile soap is a multi-tasking power house that can take you from the kitchen to the bathroom (even as a body wash) and we've seen professional cleaners in our own homes use it for almost everything, including washing down windows and glass.
Looking for a bathroom cleaner? The bathroom is covered from general cleaning to shower cleaners, toilet cleaners, non-aerosol air fresheners, mould cleaner and anti-bacterial wipes. Step into the kitchen and we have dishwashing liquid, dishwasher powder, tablets and sheets, floor cleaner, general multi-purpose sprays, compostable garbage bags, oven cleaner, fruit & veg wash and a wide variety of plastic free, zero waste sponges and brushes.
What is eco friendly cleaning?
What are green cleaning products? There are several facets to consider when choosing 'green' or eco friendly products to clean with. You may not be able to tick all the boxes for every job, but we do our best to cater for the widest possible range of solutions. Single use spray bottles can be ditched when you choose to buy concentrated cleaning product refills instead of a fresh bottle. Choosing laundry detergent sheets instead of a plastic bottle gives you a plastic free laundry experience, as do soap nuts.
If you have a grey water system or a septic tank and you want to re-use water from your laundry or kitchen, you can't have any kind of positive environmental impact when your grey water or septic system has harmful chemicals in it that will destroy the system and your garden. You will find almost every product in our range is grey water and septic tank safe. If you're not sure, please ask for clarification.
When we started in 2009, the first laundry products we stocked were made in the USA and were shipped halfway around the world to get to us. We have come a long way since then and the local industry is thriving with brands like Koala Eco, Simply Clean, Abode, Kin Kin Naturals and Ecyo. We will only step outside of Australia now for something important that we can't get locally. It makes sense for your wallet and the planet to support local, keeping the carbon footprint as small as we can.
To that end, we're seeing growth in the concentrated cleaning products space with brands not only selling pods and dissolvable tablets but the growth of natural options in the detergent sheet space with Cleaner Days bringing us a natural option in both dishwasher and laundry sheets are are scented with essential oils and not lab derived scents. The innovation in this space excites us.
Do eco cleaning products work?
Absolutely. If a cleaning solution doesn't actually work, it's not actually a solution. If natural cleaning products didn't work, we wouldn't have so much repeat business. Sure, sometimes you'll need a bit of elbow grease to get a job done, but on the whole, non toxic cleaning products work just as well as their lab derived counterparts.
The formulator for Kin Kin Naturals, which I would argue formulated the best natural dishwashing liquid on the market, has a PhD and used to work for OMO. Their range is small, but in the space they occupy, they are the market leaders for a reason.
How do you save money buying natural cleaning products?
We know that it's not always affordable for people to buy eco friendly cleaning products, but we make an effort to create options for saving money wherever we can. When it comes to biodegradable cloths and sponges, we buy direct from the manufacturers and sell them in bulk at a significant saving. When brands have 4 to 5 kg (or litre) refill options, we stock them. Despite them causing issues in our warehouse with the sheer weight of unpacking and then storing a shipment, we know a lot of our customers have health issues and rely on these products for quality of life, so the bulk refills are made available to try and keep the per litre costs down.
We know that freight costs on heavy orders are high, which is why we have such a strong focus on concentrates as well. Shipping laundry sheets instead of a 4kg bucket is a significant saving.
