UPDATE 2023

The natural eyeshadow category of our store is one of the natural makeup categories that has seen huge disruption since we launched our store in 2009. When this blog was originally written, Ere Perez were selling eye shadows in duos in a plastic compact with a mirror. Other brands like Inika were selling loose powders in pots.

Ere Perez then updated what they were doing and created colour palettes that you could refill. This have also been removed from their range now. Inika stopped selling singles, went in to duos for a while and now do a 4 colour palette in cardboard packaging with a magnetic closure. In all honestly, we're not sure how long that will stay in production for either.

Since COVID 19, we have seen a dramatic shift in the types of makeup that people purchase, but even after restrictions lifted and people went back to work and going out, the types of makeup purchased are still different than what they were pre-COVID. We're seeing more BB cream and less full coverage foundation being sold. From the brands themselves, we're seeing a reduction in traditional lipstick packaging in the natural makeup space and the introduction of multi-purpose colour pots and lipstick crayons. In natural brands, we have seen eyeshadow all but vanish.

Believe it or not, it's actually our kids makeup category that has the most options in eye shadow, with both loose and pressed options available. The pressed powders in the kids makeup are manufactured in Australia by No Nasties Kids. They are 'for play not for stay', so they don't have the vivid colour options or the staying power of adult eye shadow, and they are only available in bright vivid kid friendly colours.

Manufacturing options for eye shadow in Australia are almost non existent. For those who can find one, order minimums are huge. We are currently in the position in Australia where natural and organic makeup brands just can't afford to manufacture pressed powder eye shadow because demand is down and manufacturing costs and volumes have gone up.

The options we have in store are multi-tasking colour pots that can be used for lips, cheeks and eyes, and we have also seen the vivid array of colours from the Ere Perez Eye Pencil range be used with blending brushes to create a splash of colour on eyelids and then blended out to look like a traditional eye shadow would have.

Like the VHS player and turntables, we think this category has almost had its day.

ORIGINAL BLOG POST FROM 2014

For some time now, we've just been dipping our toes in to the natural beauty market and providing our customers with a small selection of products. The more time goes on, the more requests we have to stock a wider variety, so this week we have jumped in and added the full colour collection of Ere Perez Chamomile Eye Duos.

In the past, we've had teeny tiny colour pots of loose powder in store, and they were quite expensive and to be honest, didn't jump off the shelves. The Ere Perez eye shadows are a solid powder and come with two complementary colours in each compact. Each duo has a darker matte colour and a light shimmer colour for highlighting. Both colours come in the same compact which is $27.95 for both colours.

Do you have sensitive eyes? These eye shadow powders are formulated with natural chamomile oil, vitamin E and other natural ingredients. The emulsifier is derived from coconut oil and has smoothing and replenishing properties.

You can finish your eye makeup look with one of the Ere Perez Mascara products and an Ere Perez Eyeliner pencil.
