Legislation was passed earlier this year to finally remove the GST component from women's hygiene products. We should have most products adjusted from 1 Jan, as some of our supplier have already given us the updated pricing. It was known in the media as a 'tampon tax', but the GST removal applies to more than just tampons. The GST removal applies to tampons, pads, menstrual cups, maternity pads and leakproof underwear. Here's a brief rundown on the products in our store that will have the tax removed.

The Menstrual Cup - This is by far the most cost effective and eco friendly way to manage a period. Menstrual cups are made from silicone, can be worn all day before they need to be emptied and you only need one. They last a good couple of years, even longer. If you're a little hesitant about whether you will be able to use one, we recommend you choose OrganiCup as it comes with a 90 day moneyback guarantee, which is not offered by any other brand. They also have more eco-thoughtful packaging than other brands on the market.

Hannahpad - the first and only washable sanitary pad in our store.  We love them so much we don't see the need for an alternative. Available in 6 sizes and a variety of colours, they're available any day at 15% off when you make your own set. It just requires a minimum spend of $80 on the brand and the use of a discount code supplied on the Hannahpad page. Two products in our natural cleaning products aisle will do a great job of cleaning them, the soaker from Abode and the probiotic soap from Hannahpad.

Organic Tampons - what women used BEFORE the menstrual cup started to gain traction. All the tampons in our store are made from certified organic cotton. We have Natracare with and without applicators and Tom Organic. While Toxic Shock Syndrome is very rare, the organic status of the tampons has no bearing on any additional safety. Menstrual Cups also carry the same very small risk. Change regularly, follow hygiene guidelines and the risk is extremely minimal.

Menstrual Pads - the disposable kind are covered by the GST tax removal as well. Like the tampons, all our offerings are certified organic cotton.

To the best of our knowledge, the washes and personal lubricant are still subject to GST.
