This UK based natural beauty brand are known for their natural shampoo in plastic bottles, but in 2024 the release of the Dr Organic shampoo bars have taken them in to the realm of plastic free beauty products for the hair.

What is a shampoo bar?

While they look like a cake of soap, a quality shampoo bar is still formulated like liquid shampoo, but in a highly concentrated form. There are shampoo bar brands in our store that claim their bars can replace up to 6 bottles of shampoo. That's a significant amount of plastic not going to landfill, or even being put through the recycling process.

The 3 Dr Organic Shampoo Bars in the range

Dr Organic have three formulations in their range. Two of them are a 2 in 1 Shampoo and Conditioner Bar, the 3rd one is just a shampoo bar. The Dr Organic shampoo bars are formulated to be soap free, free from SLS and parabens, like every shampoo in our store, they are a sulfate free shampoo, which is not only important for anyone with sensitivities, but it's important for those with curly hair and also means you don't need to use conditioner with silicones to recoat your hair after the sulfates stripped all the natural oils out of your hair.

Each of the bars is based on a unique vegetable oil blend called Syndopalâ„¢ which is ultra-mild, soap free and is boosted with other ingredients, depending on what hair type the formula is being made for.

Dr Organic Tea Tree & Lemon Shampoo Bar

Dr Organic Shampoo Bar for Oily Hair is also a clarifying shampoo

Of the three products in the range, this clarifying shampoo is the only 'shampoo only' shampoo bar. The rest of the Dr Organic Shampoo Bar range are actually 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioners.

Clarifying shampoo is used for quite a few things. If you have oily hair, they are needed on a regular basis to strip out the excess oil your hair. If you're using excess styling products, especially those with silicone in them (not sold here, but many mainstream styling products still use them), you'll need something to strip the silicones away. If you're going to colour your hair, you will also need to use a clarifying shampoo before you colour so the colour takes properly, particularly if you're using a henna hair colour.

Lemon essential oil is known for helping with grease in our natural cleaning aisle, so it stands to reason it's used in an oily shampoo. It's joined by tea tree essential oil which is known for scalp health by moisturising the scalp, and in turn, reducing the potential of dandruff occurring. This isn't the only clarifying shampoo in store that uses tea tree oil. These two ingredients are also joined by kaolin clay which is known to balance oil production on the scalp.

Dr Organic Shampoo Bar for curly hair and thick hair

The curly specific formula is the Coconut & Orange Shampoo and Conditioner Bar. A unique conditioning Jojoba Hair Complex is used in these 2 in 1 bars to moisturise, help reduce frizz and hydrate the scalp. Curly hair in particular is best cleansed by not over cleaning it, leaving some of the natural oils behind to help define curls. This 2 in 1 is a quick and easy way not to overdo your curly hair routine.

Dr Organic Shampoo Bar for all hair types is soothing & restorative

The other 2 in 1 in the range is a mild shampoo and conditioner bar using Aloe Vera and Shea Butter as their hero ingredients. It also includes the same conditioning Jojoba Hair Complex found in the curly hair 2 in 1 and this one can be used by anyone.

What are the benefits of a 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner bar?

We love the 2 in 1 bars for a couple of groups of people in particular. Ask any parent of a teen (and it's often boys more than girls), getting them to work through a cleansing routine in the shower can be like pulling teeth, especially if multiple products are in play. This 2 in 1 can be used from head to toe as an all over body cleanser and shampoo and conditioner.

We also love a 2 in 1 bar for those who travel, especially flying and quick hand luggage flights. For exactly the same solution but for a different reason, 1 product does you from head to toe and does not count in your on board liquid allocation for flying.
