The Hluru 21 note Hollow Timber Kalimba is made from Mahogany timber, and is engraved. This is the perfect introductory instrument that's lightweight and easy to hold. The Kalimba is a fun instrument to introduce any child or adult to the world of music. Also known as a thumb piano, the kalimba is held with 2 hands and the stainless steel tines are plucked with your thumbnails to produce a light etherial tone like a music box or a xylophone being struck gently with a felt hammer. The kalimba is peaceful and relaxing to play and makes a great music therapy instrument.
The names and numbers of each note are embossed in to the tines to make the instrument easy to play for beginners to experts alike. We are also in the process of creating our own series of free educational material, but in the meantime, there's plenty of lessons online to learn how to play this simple instrument.

This Kalimba suits any beginner, no matter the age. The hollow Kalimbas are lightweight and easy to hold. It's an easy introduction to playing a musical instrument without the big learning curve or expense. Results to play a song from beginning to end will come quicker with an instrument like the kalimba than traditional instruments children learn like the piano, guitar, ukulele or even the recorder.

TONE - This hollow kalimba has a rustic tone with relatively short ringing tines. It's not as loud as other hollow kalimbas, and for this reason, we find it a great starter instrument at a lower price point.
MADE FROM - mahogany & stainless steel tines.
TUNING - C Major, starting from F3 (below middle C) through to E5. This instrument will need tuning from time to time. Scan the QR code on the magnet or keyring provided for instructions. By comparison, 17 note Kalimbas start at C4.
SIZE - 16cm wide x 18cm high x 3.7cm deep (body only) or 5.7cm deep (including tines)
