There’s a difference between deodorant and antiperspirant. For kids we recommend you stay away from antiperspirants as they stop your kids from sweating. Sweat is a natural detox process and important for everyone, especially children, and especially when they're active. A deodorant allows the body’s natural sweat process to happen and kills the bacteria in the sweat which is where the odour comes from. Antiperspirants block sweat glands, and active children really should be given the opportunity to sweat and detox naturally.
Is choosing a roll on deodorant for kids the best option?
To encourage kids to put a kids deodorant in their daily routine, we recommend a traditional roll on deodorant for most, accompanied by a conversation that it's totally normal for kids and adults to sweat and for a bo smell to appear if deodorant isn't used. If your child is older and is happy to use an alternatively packaged deodorant, there are other options available in spray and stick form.
Is it best to go bi-carb free for kids deodorant?
We think it is. Baking soda, or bi-carb soda is a known skin irritant even for adults. The delicate skin of a child or tween or teens armpits are likely to be more sensitive than an adult. Should I choose an unscented deodorant for my child?
This is purely a personal preference. While essential oils in natural deodorant can assist to mask body odour, it's not the driving force behind what makes natural deodorants work.
