It’s usually used as an absolute rather than an essential oil because vanilla beans do not release aromamatic molecules when they are cold pressed or steam distilled like lavender essential oil and other essential oils are.
Vanilla Absolute, CO2 extracts and Vanilla Extract (which is the one that’s safe to use for cooking) are all added to a variety of essential oil blends for its sweet and rich aroma.
