The rest will be changing too. The first reason is a practical one. You can't spill and tip a pressed powder all over the floor and lose it all. The second reason is one of saving money, you use less. The third is a safety issue. Regardless of whether you're talking about adult makeup or kids makeup, when you're using loose powders, there is a chance you will inhale some of the fine particles as you apply. It's far worse with loose powder foundation on an adult, but kids eyeshadow can still be inhaled if used incorrectly and without supervision.

In our store, the ingredients criteria for kids and adults are a little different. Our strictest guidelines go to anything for kids and anything going near or on their face.

Given parabens a wide berth with kids in particular. These harmful chemicals can easily be found in cheap products with longer names like methylparaben or propylparaben (there's more than that). Stay away from synthetic fragrances and colours. They can cause skin irritation and headaches in some.

Talc based makeup can contain trace amounts of asbestos. Why? It's commonly found in the same rock that the talk is mined from. There is no low or safe level of asbestos exposure. It lodges deep in the lungs and can cause life threatening breathing issues.

The safest kids nail polish is something that doesn't need nail polish remover to come off. The peelable nail polish from No Nasties very much falls under the 'for PLAY not for STAY' motto. It's painted on, may not look pristine like an adult polish, and when you're done playing, it easily peels off while the rest of the play makeup washes off.

Letting your child's imagination run wild is an important part of being a kid.
