We have added Gem Toothpaste to our range this month. We have always specialised in products that are new, innovative and hard to find in mainstream stores. Gem dental products tick the first 2 boxes but not the third box. When something is available in major outlets, we usually leave them to it, but this is such an innovative range, and loved by dentists, including my own, that we just needed to stock it. This article will give you more information on what an important product range I think this is.

1. Does Gem Toothpaste remineralise your teeth each time you brush?

This is the hero ingredient in Gem toothpaste - Hydroxyapatite (Omyadent). It's the main mineral that our teeth and bones are made from and it's safe alternative to fluoride. Hydroxyapatite repairs and remineralises tooth enamel with calcium and phosphorus. This, in turn, helps them become harder and stronger while assisting in the whitening and smoothing of the surface of your teeth each and every time you brush.

Gem are one of the first brands of natural toothpaste in Australia to use hydroxyapatite, but you will see it appear more and more frequently.

2. Does Gem Toothpaste include a probiotic?

The mouth holds a lot of bacteria. It's impossible to kill it all, it's not what your body is designed to do. What you can do though is to introduce good bacteria and have it overtake the bad bacteria. Lactobacillus Salivarius is included in the toothpaste which is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. It's bad bacterial that starts destrying tooth enamel and the dentin layer underneath the enamel. This oral probiotic helps shift the balance from bad towards good and create a healthy and balanced microbiome in your mouth, much like taking a good quality probiotic does for your gut health.

3. Is Gem Toothpaste a whitening toothpaste?

Yes. The use of calcium carbonate in the toothpaste range gives the toothpaste its whitening qualities, without being harsh. Calcium carbonate is a naturally mined mineral. It's a mild abrasive that's used to remove surface stains, polish teeth, whiten and also help to prevent the build up of plaque. It is joined by hydrated silica which also removes surface stains, whitens and polishes. Not all silica is created equal and the ultra-fine microscopic particles used in Gem toothpaste are gentle.

4. Is Gem Toothpaste available in fluoride and fluoride free options?

Not everyone wants to remove fluoride from their toothpaste, but they want to remove parabens, triclosan, SLS and titanium dioxide. Gem Toothpaste gives you the best of both worlds, and you can choose the Gem that suits your needs, or better still, since Gem is recommended by a lot of dentists, you can choose the Gem that your dentist recommends for you. There's fluoride and fluoride free toothpaste in the range.

5. What flavours is Gem Toothpaste available in?

The Gem natural toothpaste range has some flavours we've never seen before in any natural toothpaste range. They are all paired with mint, so it's a familiar flavour with a twist. Try Apple Mint, Cinnamon Mint, Coconut Mint, Rose Mint or Watermelon Mint for something a little different. There is also a Crisp Mint for that traditional flavour you already know.

  • Fluoride Free Toothpaste in 6 flavours
