When we met the owners of Dr Planet Castile Soap at the Naturally Good Expo in 2023, it took me under 60 seconds to decide to stock it purely on feeling the product in my hands and seeing it in action. After a good 10-15 minute conversation, I truly discovered just how good this liquid castile soap really is. Here's the top 5 reasons why we love this product.

  1. Dr Planet Castile Soap is Australian Made
  2. Dr Planet Castile Soap is Palm Oil Free
  3. Dr Planet Castile Soap is thicker & more concentrated than the imports
  4. Dr Planet Castile Soap is better value for money as you can save up to 35% with bulk sizes
  5. Dr Planet Castile Soap can be used in your washing machine and in your dishwasher

#1 reason why we love Dr Planet Castile Soap - it's Australian Made

The most well known castile soap in Australia is Dr Bronners which we do sell here. It's an American brand and they are manufactured in the USA from organic and fair trade ingredients sourced in countries like Ghana, Sri Lanka, Samoa, India and Kenya, including their palm oil which does not harm animal habitats. Despite their total control of their supply chain, the ingredients and the final product travel a long way before they make it to Australia. This leaves a carbon footprint.

Dr Planet Castile Soap is made in Australia, in Victoria. The main ingredient, olive oil, is made and grown in Australia, and makes up 75% of the total product. Unable to source the other two main ingredients from Australia, their coconut oil comes from Malaysia and the castor oil from India. They make up less than 10% of the formula. These two oils added to the olive oil not only create lather but offer stability to the two scented versions that use pure essential oils, not only for their scent, but for their assistance in cleaning.
Choosing this brand is supporting Australian Made & Owned and leaving a smaller footprint on the planet.

#2 reason why we love Dr Planet Castile Soap - it's palm oil free

As we mentioned in point 1, Dr Planet is 100% palm oil free. While we don't believe on a blanket ban on palm oil, and we applaud companies who have true control of their supply chain, it's a very difficult thing for a small brand to achieve, so going palm oil free is a much safer option, which is what Dr Planet have done. It's not only palm oil free, it's vegan and cruelty free.

#3 reason why we love Dr Planet Castile Soap - it's thicker and more concentrated than the imports

I use Dr Bronners on a regular basis so I'm very familiar with the consistency. This is what sold me pretty much immediately when I tried this and felt how much thicker it was. It foams up really well and you can use less.

#4 reason why we love Dr Planet Castile Soap - it's better value for money, saving you up to 35% with bulk sizes

There's actually three reasons why it's better value for money. Firstly, it's literally cheaper by volume than Dr Bronner's is. Secondly, it's thicker so you can dilute it further and use less to get the same job done. Thirdly, because there's only 3 scents, we can afford to keep the bulk sizes in stock, and the bulk bottles are rectangular so they take up less room on the shelves. The bulk 2.5 litre bottle represents a 30% saving compared to the 500ml pump bottle and the 5 litre bottle represents a 35% saving compared to the 500ml pump bottle. Dr Planet even went to the trouble of putting an incredibly long lasting label on the 500ml pump bottles because they only want you to buy a pump once. After that, we all want you to save money and plastic and buy the larger refills.

#5 reason why we love Dr Planet Castile Soap - it can be used in your washing machine and your dishwasher

Because it's a different formula, Dr Planet can be used for 2 very major cleaning jobs in your home that Dr Bronner can't. For the dishwasher, 10 pumps and a tablespoon of bicarb or washing soda can replace your dishwasher powder. For the washing machine, 10 pumps in to the soap dispenser is all you need. As a laundry soaker, 5 pumps in to a bucket and just 1 pump for a spot treatment directly on to the stain. Whenever I don't have a stain remover, I always grab dishwashing liquid for spot treatments, and since you can use Dr Planet to wash your dishes too, it's a serious all round multi-tasker.
