Surf Mud Natural Zinc Tinted Covering Cream

The product that started the brand is a thick, tinted zinc covering cream supplied in a 45g aluminium tin. It contains zinc oxide, beeswax, lanolin and iron oxides, creating the traditional visible layer of tinted zinc often associated with surfers. Unlike the clear Surf Mud sunscreens, it isn't made to disappear as you rub it in.

This product doesn't have a verified numerical SPF rating in its current listing, so it shouldn't be treated as equivalent to the SPF30 or SPF50 formulas. Use a suitably labelled SPF sunscreen for your regular sun protection. Surf Mud Ocean Addicts Sunscreen SPF30

Ocean Addicts SPF30 is a clear, rub-in zinc sunscreen created with active beach and ocean days in mind. It provides broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection, is water resistant for four hours and can be used on the face and body according to its directions.

This is the richer and more moisturising of Surf Mud's clear formulas. That skin feel may appeal if you prefer a more substantial sunscreen for swimming, surfing or other outdoor activities. Surf Mud Mineral Sunscreen SPF50

Mineral SPF50 is the higher-SPF choice in the range. Like Ocean Addicts, it is a clear, rub-in mineral sunscreen that uses zinc oxide as its active ingredient and provides broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection. It is also water resistant for four hours.

The main difference is how it feels: the SPF50 formula has a lighter texture than Ocean Addicts SPF30. This can make it appealing for everyday wear as well as active outdoor use when applied and reapplied according to the pack directions. It is available in 50g, 100g and 125g sizes, including a 100g tin. Higher SPF doesn't mean all-day coverage, so regular reapplication remains important.

Surf Mud Surfbaby Sensitive Sunscreen SPF30

Surfbaby Sensitive SPF30 is a clear, rub-in zinc sunscreen developed for sensitive skin. The updated formula has been dermatologist tested and has undergone HRIPT sensitive-skin testing. It provides broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection and four hours of water resistance.

Despite the Surfbaby name, this formula isn't only relevant to little beachgoers. Adults who prefer a sunscreen developed for sensitive skin may also find it worth considering. No minimum age should be assumed from the name alone, so follow the current age guidance and directions supplied with the product. Tubes or Tins?

The SPF-rated Surf Mud formulas are offered in several sizes. A 50g tube takes up less room in a beach bag or day bag, while the 100g tin suits customers who prefer a metal container. The 125g tube gives you a little more sunscreen for regular use without changing the formula inside.
