While I'm determined to keep providing hemp recipes to our international customers and for those who like to spoil their dogs, I am also going to be providing great DIY recipes for body care and skin care products using hemp seeds, hemp protein powder and hemp seed oil as core ingredients. All of these come as a by-product of the hulled hemp seeds we have available for sale.

Note: Hemp products including seeds, oil and protein powder became legal to consume in 2018.

Basic Hemp Body Scrub

There are two core ingredients to a basic hemp body scrub, and once you have these two core ingredients mixed together, you can start to get creative.

  • 1/2 cup of hemp protein powder
  • hemp seed oil (approx 1/8 cup)

Place your hemp protein powder in to a glass bowl and drizzle in enough hemp seed oil to moisten the powder.

Pimp Your Hemp Body Scrub

Lemon & Brown Sugar - add a heaped dessert spoon of brown sugar (or coconut sugar) and the zest of half a lemon and pulse in your blender until it's still a little gritty but not lumpy.
Lavender & Hemp Seeds - for more exfoliation, place a heaped dessert spoon of hemp seeds and half a dozen drop of food grade Lavender essential oil in to your mixture (doTERRA is food grade)
Coffee - add a heaped dessert spoon of coffee grounds in to your mixture

It's really easy to be creative here. The basis of the scrub is your oil and protein, after that, adding an aromatic and something that has exfoliating properties is all you need to do. Himalayan salt and any combination of essential oils you like is perfect. You're only limited by what's in your pantry, your nose and your imagination!

Make the mixing job a whole lot easier

I know we're making natural skin care here, but we're doing it with food. There's no reason why you can't speed up the process of mixing these with something from our blenders category. Since all the ingredients are food, there's no issue with any kind of contamination. My only suggestion if you're using a blender and you're adding natural essential oils, to mix them in by hand at the end. Despite our essential oils from doTERRA having some oils marked as food grade, they are highly concentrated and potent and I would not risk potentially damaging a plastic blender jug. You can always use white vinegar to get smells out, but I'm not sure what they would do to your jug.
