Stay tuned, this week we had a meeting with the Australian distributor for the Glass Dharma glass drinking straw range and spoke to her about special ordering in the Camelbak conversion kit for the Camelbak glass water bottle range.
One question we get asked a lot when people are shopping for water bottles is to find one without plastic touching the water. While we have a few options in the stainless steel water bottles category (see the Klean Kanteen bottles with the stainless steel lids), there's one option in a glass water bottle with a screw lid that has stainless steel on the inner lid (the Beautiful Beaches bottles with the neoprene cover), there's nothing with a drinking straw.
While the Camelbak glass water bottles still have a plastic lid, we believe there is a conversion kit to allow some of the components touching the water to all be glass.
From watching the video above, you can see that there's a specially made straw that fits inside the water bottle that replaces the bpa free plastic straw that comes standard with the bottle. There is also a smaller straw that sits inside the silicone bite valve. You will still have a small amount of plastic touching your drinking water, but it is significantly reduced when using the glass straw conversion kit. The bite valve in the Eddy lid will close with the small straw in place, but it will no longer be spillproof. Simply pull the stop straw out of the bite valve and store it in the silicone cover for transport.
When they become available, we will update this post.
