Having trouble kissing Cling Film goodbye? In most homes, it's one thing that people find hard to give up when choosing to attempt the plastic free challenge, but it's not as difficult as you might think. There's three major ways to do this.

  1. Silicone Wraps and food covers
  2. Fabric food covers
  3. Beeswax and vegan wax wraps

Silicone Wraps & Food Covers

OPTION 1 - Agreena wraps were the first of their kind in Australia and we assisted with their online launch. They are an ultra thin, food grade silicone that can be used to wrap items, cover bowls like you would use cling film or as a baking paper replacement to use in the oven. They can be a little fiddly to use and require a few washes in hot soapy water for them to settle in. They're versatile and can also be used to replace baking paper. They are available in 3 different sizes, a small and large square in our original 4 pack and a larger rectangle for baking trays.

"Wow - these are amazing!! I received them one week ago and they have completely removed the need for our family to ever go back to using cling wrap, foil and baking paper.

I recently did some cooking with my daughter and we were making a healthy pizza and usually I would use that opportunity to just talk about the importance of taking care of yourself with healthy food - but because I used a silicone sheet to bake the pizza on in the oven and then another sheet to wrap it up with in the fridge once we'd finished, I was also able to talk about the importance of taking care of our environment, which is another topic of discussion I like to weave into our little chats! G"

OPTION 2 - Round food cover sets made from silicone serve one purpose only, but they're super easy to handle. they're round with sides and tabs to easily pull over the top of any bowl or plate. Like the Agreena above, these will stretch to accommodate odd shapes.

Fabric Food Covers

They look like a shower cap and are the fabric version of the silicone food covers just above here. They're one of the easiest options to use and to care for.  4myearth food covers are used to cover leftovers in the fridge, they're made from cotton canvas with a biodegradable inner coating and they are a round fabric circle with elastic around the edge and fit snugly over bowls and food containers. The lining means that liquids won't absorb through to the fabric and won't allow the food underneath to dry out. They're biodegradable at end of life as long as you remove the elastic first.

"Love these covers! They are thick, durable, easy to clean and definitely worth every cent. So pleased with this purchase I went and immediately bought more. CS"

4myearth also have reusable sandwich bags and snack pockets made in the same way which are perfect paired with any lunch box / lunch bag combo school or work.

Beeswax  & Vegan Wax Wraps

To make beeswax wraps, they take a plain piece of cotton fabric and infuse it with a combination of beeswax (or vegan waxes), tree resin and organic jojoba oil. The waxes make it water resistant / waterproof and they can be used over and over again. Warm them up in your hands, shape around plates and bowls and say goodbye to cling film for good. They're suitable to use with most things, as long as it's not hot and not raw meat. These natural little multi-taskers can also be used for anything from wrapping sandwiches muffins and cookies for lunch or made into a pouch to hold smaller items.

"I have been wanting to buy these food covers for so long. I'm really happy with them and feel so much better about minimising the use of cling wrap. Highly recommended. BF"
